What is Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing has had a lot of press lately, and there’s a growing evidence base supporting its use during labour. It’s been shown to reduce to the need for pain relief and intervention and increase the likelihood of a natural delivery. It’s even been found to reduce the length of labour.

But what is it? Essentially hypnobirthing teaches you many different tools to help you relax deeply during your labour. This reduces the adrenaline in your body, encouraging the natural labour process and allowing the muscles of the uterus and cervix to work effectively. The techniques can be helpful no matter how you choose to give birth – whether at home or hospital, with or without pain relief, whether you have a spontaneous birth or a C section – hypnobirthing can help you have a positive, satisfactory and empowering experience.
